The Beginning and End

the last line comes as no surprise
after the opener

for before all
death gave me life

waterways were dammed for my drinking
trees timbered for my shelter
cotton chopped for my clothing
mice murdered for my medicine
flora and fauna funeralized at my feasts

so now
as death arrives
to collect on its debt
my cost of living

i humbly ask

Is there nothing else I can kill?
To stay alive just a little, little longer?
Literally anything.

I hear rhino horn does good things.
